Finding ExamplesThe Center for Engineering Education Outreach (CEEO) created example VIs and programs that you can use to learn about the LabVIEW Toolkit for LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT. Select Tools»NXT Module»NXT Terminal to display the NXT Terminal dialog box and select an example VI from the Examples section or an example program from the CEEO Examples section. Refer to the labview\examples\NXTToolkit directory for additional example VIs. You can modify an example VI to fit an application, or you can copy and paste from one or more examples into a VI that you create. Known IssuesThe following list describes known issues at the time of release. Refer to the Knowledge Base at ni.com for the most recent information about known issues. - LabVIEW intermittently hangs when you expand the NXT Files section of the NXT Terminal dialog box. To avoid this behavior, close the NXT Files section when you do not need to use it.
- When you click the Debug button in the NXT Terminal dialog box to compile, download, and run a VI on the NXT device, the VI remains in memory on the host computer even after you close the VI. You must restart LabVIEW to remove the VI from memory.
- When you click the Debug button in the NXT Terminal dialog box to compile, download, and run a VI on the NXT device, any control wired directly to an input terminal of a Case structure compiles as a constant. Therefore, changing the value of the control has no effect. To avoid this behavior, temporarily wire another function or VI between the control and the Case structure. For example, use the Add function to add zero to a numeric control. Then wire the output of the Add function to the input terminal of the Case structure.
- You cannot click the Debug button in multiple NXT Terminal dialog boxes to compile, download, and run multiple VIs on the NXT device.
- Objects you place in parallel within a Sequence structure do not execute in parallel in VIs that you download to an NXT device. Instead, the objects execute sequentially based on the scheduling order of the compiler.
- Sequence structures with multiple frames are not supported in VIs that you compile and download to an NXT device.
- Numeric operations involving a cluster and an array of clusters are not supported in VIs that you download to an NXT device.
- Stacked shift registers are not supported in VIs that you download to an NXT device.
- When you target the NXT device with an Invoke Node, the compiler handles NXTInput and NXTOutput refnums correctly only if their names begin with Generic Refnum Name.
- Any calibration you perform on the NXT device is not taken into account when you read sensor values using the direct command protocol.
- (LabVIEW 7.1.1) The LEGO® MINDSTORMS® software cannot compile password-protected VIs because the compiler cannot access the block diagram of a password-protected VI. Therefore, when creating a LEGO® MINDSTORMS® block, do not password protect the Implementation VI or any of its subVIs.
- (LabVIEW 7.1.1) Labels in the configuration pane of blocks you import to the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® software might display improperly. When creating a LEGO® MINDSTORMS® block, ensure the labels of front panel objects in the Configuration VI accomodate different DPI and font size settings. Ensure the Size to Text option in the shortcut menu is disabled for the front panel objects, and ensure that extra white space surrounds the labels.
- (LabVIEW 7.1.1) The LEGO® MINDSTORMS® software supports only numeric, Boolean, and string data types for the input and output plugs of blocks. The connector pane of the Implementation VI for a block you want to import to the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® software therefore must consist only of controls and indicators of these data types.
- (LabVIEW 8.5.x, LabVIEW 8.6.x) You cannot wire a floating-point number directly to the type input of the Unflatten From String function. You first must place the floating-point number inside a cluster and then wire the cluster to the type input of the Unflatten From String function.
